Congrès National des Associations F-GB à Tours
Du 28 au 31 mars dernier le Congrès national des associations F-GB avait lieu à Tours.
Déjeuner dans la Salle des Fêtes de l’Hôtel de Ville de Tours
Le vendredi fut une journée de réception à la mairie avec une visite guidée de la ville de Tours, hélas, sous la pluie. Cette journée fut parrainée par Michael Sadler, auteur de plusieurs livres en français et en anglais, dont: Un Anglais à Paris, Un Anglais à la Campagne et Un Anglais Amoureux. Michael est le plus anglais des Tourangeaux, le plus tourangeaux des Anglais!
Samedi nous avions le plaisir d'accueillir Sir Peter Westmacott KCMG LVO, ambassadeur de Grande Bretagne à Paris, et Monsieur Patrick Subrémon, préfet d'Indre et Loire. La matinée fut consacrée au Congrès des associations,
Accompagnés éventuellement d’autres membres, et entourés d’un grand nombre d’adhérents de France Grande Bretagne Touraine, ont pris la parole pour présenter leurs associations :

Mr. Charles EUGSTER, président F-GB Quercy,
Mme Christine WESTON, présidente F-GB Côte basque,
Mme Paule RICHARD, Vice-présidente F-GB Nantes,
Mme Michèle POIRIER, Présidente F-GB Orléans
M. Gérard HOCMARD, Délégué général F-GB Paris,
Mme Georgette DRAPER, Présidente F-GB Perpignan,
M. Jean-Paul HENNEQUIN, Trésorier F-GB Saint-Malo,
Mme Freya COLIN, Présidente F-GB Touraine,
soit les représentants de 9 associations sur la trentaine qui fonctionne encore (chiffre lui-même en baisse depuis le dernier congrès) auxquels il faut ajouter la présence, par lettre interposée, de la présidente de F-GB Nice.
Après un déjeuner au menu tourangeau auquel assistaient Sir Peter et le préfet d'Indre et Loire, c'était
le colloque dont le thème fut "La France et la Grande Bretagne dans l'Europe : un regard vers l'avenir. À tour de rôle Sir Peter, Claude Moisy ancien patron de France-presse, Bernard Dorin, ambassadeur de France, le Général de corps aérien Jean Michel et Gérard Hocmard, Délégué général des associations F-GB, prenaient la parole pour parler d'un aspect particulier du thème du jour.
Ce colloque du samedi 29 mars après-midi a permis, en dépit des différences qui subsistent et subsisteront, de dégager les rapprochements très nets intervenus entre les deux pays dans les domaines où leurs intérêts convergent, et justement en Europe. L’exemplarité de leur coopération militaire a été citée. L’heureuse coïncidence d’une visite d’État qui a permis de parler d’ »entente amicale », de « fraternité », voire (non sans ambiguïté compte tenu de la différence d’acception du terme dans les deux langues) d’ « entente formidable », a bien entendu contribué à mettre en lumière les éléments positifs relevés par les orateurs.
Le soir on termina la journée dans la joie aux Caves de Montlouis et le Dîner de Gala.

The Congress 2008 in Tours, March 28-31st:
The 2008 Congress of the Associations France-Grande Bretagne took place in Tours from 28th to 31st March. Thephotos on the website reflect the success of the weekend: Friday a reception at the town hall of Tours, a visit of the town; on Saturday the Congress proper and in the afternoon the forum to discuss the franco-british partnership within Europe. We had the luck to have chosen the weekend immediately following President Sarkozy's visit to London. The presence of Sir Peter Westmacott KCMG LVO, British Ambassador to France was timely and he was able to inform us of the warmth of the atmosphere in London during the French visit.
In Tours the feelings were equally strong. Members from all over France, from different AFGB associations, were able to exchange views, plans, ideas, and discuss the future together. In the afternoon the Forum heard the different points of view from the five guest speakers, all discussing Franco-British cooperation within Europe. In turn Sir Peter Westmacott, Claude Moisy, Bernard Dorin and General Jean Michel approached the theme of the day: France and Great Britain and their relationship within Europe: a look to the future , each from a personal viewpoint. Gérard Hocmard closed the debate with an account of the role of the associations FGB in Europe today and in the future.
In the evening a coach took us to the Cellars in Montlouis for a Gala Dinner where a good time was had by all.
Sunday was spent in the river Indre valley. It ended with a piano concert given by Chriasiane Charreyron, a member of F-GB en Touraine, which was greatly appreciated by all those who heard her play at the château d'Artigny. Our thanks to Christiane for such a warm and inspiring end to a memorable weekend.
The photos on the website are a tribute to all those who did so much to make the weekend a successful one. We attested to the pronouncements of our governments that the Entente Cordiale was not just amicale but rapidly becoming an Entente Formidable!
